James D. Steigmeyer

Pediatrician

Dr. Jim was born and raised in Fort Wayne, is one of six children of Dave and Suzy Steigmeyer, and is a graduate of Bishop Dwenger High School. He attended Loyola University Chicago and completed a degree in Biology prior to enrolling at the Indiana University School of Medicine. Following medical school, Dr. Jim completed pediatric training at Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis. He returned to Fort Wayne and was fortunate enough to work with his father, Dr. Dave Steigmeyer, at Fort Wayne Pediatrics for several years.

Dr. Jim and his wife, Liz, have three children, two sons and one daughter. Though the kids have moved away, the whole family enjoys traveling, hiking, and just spending time together. Dr. Jim enjoys teaching and typically has a medical student with him most days. He is the Clerkship Director for the Indiana University School of Medicine's third year medical students here in Fort Wayne.

Dr. Jim's favorite season is fall, and his favorite holiday, seriously, is Groundhog Day. It's that cold, dark time of year, perfectly positioned between Christmas and spring, when you have to forget the weather and celebrate something - why not the groundhog? His favorite food, like that of many of his patients, is macaroni and cheese. He is a Loyola University basketball fan and has followed the Detroit Tigers for way too many years.
